Scholars & Staff
The Green Scholars Initiative is designed to provide hands-on access to rare and unpublished items in the Green Collection. However, the primary goal is to use this research as an opportunity to mentor participating students in both primary research and the publication process. This takes place under the direction of their professor (Scholar-Mentor), and support faculty found in the ranks of our Senior and Distinguished Scholars.
The Green Scholars Initiative is as much about mentoring young scholars as it is about publication. It hopes to seize the opportunity to work with remarkable items to benefit professors, many of whom do not enjoy equal access to such materials, and to benefit their students. The Initiative democratizes research as it redefines excellence in teaching and scholarship.
The Green Scholars Initiative is directed by Dr. Jerry Pattengale who is an award-winning professor and scholar and has received international acclaim for his pedagogical innovations. In addition to his other research, he also serves as a General Editor for the GSI Brill Papyri Series (with Dr. Dirk Obbink, Christ Church, Oxford) and as the Managing Editor for the GSI Brill Early Jewish Texts Series (Dr. Emanuel Tov, General Editor).
The Green Scholars Initiative enjoys both full-time and part-time experts in many fields. Senior Scholars and Distinguished Scholars will be added to the list below as new projects are initiated.
